About
The Capital Cup is a windsurfing regatta featuring
marathon-style racing around landmarks on Lake Burley
Griffin. Compete over one or two days with 2 races each day (4 races total). Your best 2 results count — drop your 2 worst.
Entry is free. Prizes will include a (cheap!) trophy
As this is the first year we are running this event and it is
being organised quite late you should not expect a perfectly
polished event. Come along and have fun in the spirit of
windsurfing, 50% racing, 50% fun!
Eligible Boards
Elegible boards are Windsurfer LT or Windsurfer one-design
with 5.7m regatta sail or the new 5m class sail.
Eligible Sailors
You need to get a WCAA member with
insurance. See
https://www.windsurfer-class-aus.com/
and click the "Join the Windsurfer Class" if you aren't
already a member. The clubspot registration link below should
only allow you to register if you are a member.
Tracking
We will be supplying GPS trackers for entrants which will make
scoring simpler. You can also optionally use your own phone
for tracking -
see
https://wstracker.org
for details and how to install the tracker on your own device.
Spectators (both local and remote) will be able to view
the races in real-time. See links below for the proposed
courses and live tracking web interface.
Water Quality
There can sometimes be issues with algae in the lake. See
https://www.nca.gov.au/environment/lake-burley-griffin/water-quality
for the latest information. There are some areas closed to
swimming at the moment but open to sailing.
WhatsApp Chat
We have a Windsurfer LT Canberra WhatsApp group. Message
Andrew Tridgell on 0412 666 929 to ask to be added. Please
join that group if you plan on attending as we will be doing
updates there.
Still baking ...
This event is being organised quite late (only 1 month to
go). I haven't locked in a support boat yet, but hope to get
that organised. It's a free event, and you should expect to
get your moneys worth!
Canberra Marathon Festival
Also note that
the
Canberra
Marathon Festival is the same weekend, there could be
crowds and some of them may be cheering the runners instead of
us windsurfers. It may be tricky with parking on Sunday
morning in particular. More on the WhatsApp chat when we know
it.
